OK, I am taking this link building with twitter information directly from this post by Jonathan Becker. This looks like a seriously legit tactic for getting instant traffic, and first page ranking for keywords with decent volume.

Here is a quick summary of the steps involved:

1. go to google trends and pick a hot topic (e.g “state of union address” and “obama gop”)

2. write a couple of relevant tweets with those keywords in them. Optimize the tweets by using hashtags (i.e. #gop), this will get your tweets picked up for keywords containing the word “gop” in google search results.

3. Within minutes Jonathan’s tweets turned up on the front page of google, this was really important because of the massive volume those search terms were achieving at the time.
