In search engine optimization one of the key factors you will face is building enough page rank to your blog. Page rank is passed through links when links are ‘dofollow‘, or in other words do not have a ‘nofollow’ tag present. SEOMoz had the privilege of interviewing the illustrious Matt Cutts from google to get the latest low-down on nofollow and dofollow tags. See video above and then 2 videos below.
In a nutshell Matt recommends to not use no follow tags on internal links and just let the page rank flow. Seems to make sense from a logic point of view if your pagerank is just going to evaporate anyway doesn’t it? (So it may as well go somewhere useful. If you don’t want pagerank evaporating on you then perhaps remove that link altogether.
@pearsonified added nofollow tags for category and tag links by default. So maybe he is onto something with this, and I regard Chris with high esteem in terms of SEO expertise. So is Chris telling us to just leave out categories and tags altogether? It appears so… but I’ve dropped Chris a quick Tweet to ask him his views on Matt’s recommendations.
Are nofollow links a waste of time?
How does using dofollow links (in comments) affect my blog?
Thanks to dofollow blog for the original story.
