It’s really strange how local businesses still insist on using the Yellow Pages for the main form of marketing. Here’s why; 80% of consumers now turn to search engines like google, bing and yahoo to find answers and solutions to just about anything these days. In 2008 approximately 78% of people DID NOT use the Yellow Pages, and that figure is increasing.
One of the demographics that probably do still use the yellow pages is 60+ users; increasingly they are coming online but the transition for them is somewhat slower.
So what does that mean for offline business advertising and marketing spend? Make sure a healthy chunk is invested in online sources such as search engine optimization, ppc, media buying, facebook advertising, and social media marketing.
I know there will be some folks out there who will be resistive to this trend because the industry is changing so quickly, but those who quickly adapt will not only survive – but they will TRIVE. And isn’t that what we all want?
